This Consortium (partnered with the internationally respected University of Cape Town), offers a unique joint opportunity for students of Macalester, Pomona, and Swarthmore Colleges to study the environment and complex, multi-cultural society of South Africa against a background of globalization and rapid technological change. The MPS/GES team in South-Africa provides specialized expertise on research of urban and rural dynamics, geopolitics, global development, earth systems, sustainability and climate change. In addition to a customized January core seminar (with embedded excursions), each student completes a directed study project, as well as 2 UCT semester courses as electives.
